About Bruin MindFit

MindFit


Bruin MindFit is a 4- week hands-on mindful movement and meditation course  that teaches several effective stress management tools and is offered to faculty and staff at no cost.  Bruin MindFit participants practice meditation, breathing (pranayama), basic yoga movement, relaxation, walking, and everyday mindfulness. We are offering 4 different modules: Mindfulness & Stress Reduction, Mindfulness & Resilience, Mindfulness,Compassion & Communication, Relaxation & Breathing.

Bruin MindFit is appropriate for individuals of all fitness levels, who are ready to cultivate everyday wellness and a daily practice of stress relieving, mindful movement, and meditation. Some possible benefits of Bruin MindFit are:

LIVE Virtual Bruin MindFit Winter 2021:

Bruin MindFit is appropriate for individuals, of all fitness levels, who are ready to cultivate everyday wellness and a daily practice of mindful movement and meditation for stress relief & resilience.  Each session is conducted in a virtual format throughout Zoom live streaming.  Two Bruin MindFit modules are offered for Winter 2021, as an evening session or a lunch-time session: (1) Mindfulness & Resilience Module, and (2) Mindfulness, Compassion & Communication.  Sign up for one or both modules below!

Mindfulness & Resilience Module 

A 4-week virtual live streaming mindful movement and meditation course that teaches several mindfulness, stress-management & resilience tools. Learn the capacity to recover quickly and bounce back from difficulties and toughness.

Learn how to turn a negative stressor into a positive opportunity. Apply the resilience strategies such as the relaxation, mindfulness and adaptation responses. Release physical tensions through the Vinyasa flow and deep stretching Yoga. Gain inner strength and physical endurance to face and overcome adversity. Cultivate new wellness & resilience lifestyle habits with mindful posture, daily breathing and meditation.

SECTION 1: 1/12/21 - 2/4/21, Evening Session: Mindfulness & Resilience Module, Tuesdays, 5pm - 6:15pm (75 min each class, once a week)

SECTION 2: 2/9/21 - 3/4/21, Lunch Time Session: Mindfulness & Resilience Module, Tuesdays & Thursdays, 12:10pm-1:00pm (50 min each class, twice a week)

 

Mindfulness, Compassion & Communication Module 

A 4-week virtual live streaming mindful movement and meditation course that teaches several mindfulness & compassion tools. Learn how to cultivate compassion in all aspects of your life.

Deepen your understanding of the compassion strategies such mindful communication, social justice and diversity. Learn to cultivate compassion towards self and others through the teachings and applied solutions of mindfulness, Yoga movement, breathing and meditation. Experience the mindfulness, loving kindness and gratitude meditations Practice the heart and chest openers Yoga moves for flexibility, strength and balance. Cultivate new compassionate lifestyle habits with mindful living, daily breathing and meditation.

    Mindfulness, Breathing & Relaxation Module 

    A 4-week virtual live streaming mindful movement and meditation course that teaches several breathing and relaxation tools.  Learn how to enhance your lungs capacity, release tensions and improve your posture.

    Undo the effects of stress & uncertainty. Learn how to cultivate calm & serenity in all aspects of your life.  Deepen your understanding of the breathing & relaxation strategies such as dual nostril and alternate nostril breathing, body scans, and gentle Yin Yoga. Learn to cultivate inner peace and to rejuvenate your body through the teachings and applied solutions of mindfulness, yoga movement, breathing, and meditation.

    FAQs

    How do people get selected for the program? 
    The selection process is based on a lottery. All applications received will be entered into the drawing. The application must be completely filled out.

    Is there a wait list for those not drawn in the lottery?
    There is no wait list.

    Does Bruin MindFit cost money? 
    No. This program is being offered free to (first time participants) faculty and staff as part of FITWELL’s employee wellness initiative funded by the University.

    What is the program like? What will we be doing? 
    Bruin MindFit is a stress mindful movement and meditation program. Meditation, breathing (pranayama), yoga, relaxation, walking, and mindfulness will be practiced regularly. The goal of the program is for you to walk away with a daily practice that suits you best.

    How much physical activity will be included in the program? 

    Yoga and walking will be done regularly. The yoga will be suitable for a beginner and/or someone who practices yoga regularly. It will include getting up and down from the floor. You will learn several short sequences that could serve as your daily stress management practice. We will also explore several ways to use walking as a meditation and stress management technique.  The walks would last 5 minutes to 30 minutes.

    Will the meditation require floor sitting? 
    We will learn several types of meditation. You will always have a chair as an option. When we do meditation on the floor, there will be bolsters, blankets, and blocks available that help to make floor sitting more comfortable.

    Who is going to teach the classes? 
    Our FitWell Staff of Yoga, Meditation, and Fitness Instructors.

    Do I have to sign up for a specific time or could I go to any of the scheduled times? 

    Yes, please choose the class time that suits you best. We will do our place you in your preferred timeslot as space permits. This will be your assigned timeslot for each day of class, for the entire program. On an occasional basis, you can attend another class if you cannot make the class you are enrolled in.

    Do we need to attend each and every class? 
    We recommend you miss no more than 4 classes total in order for it to be as beneficial as possible. If you foresee missing 4 or more classes, we recommend you apply for the next Bruin MindFit session when you can attend consistently. Schedule alternatives (i.e. practicing from home, make-up classes, etc.) will not be offered.

    Do I need to be a recreation member to participate? 
    No, recreation membership is not required. You only need to be a full time faculty or staff member to qualify. This program is not for students.

    Can I repeat Bruin MindFit? 
    If you have participated in the past (either dropped the program early without an excused dismissal such as a medical or family emergency, or finished the entire program), the cost is $150.
