About Bruin MindFit


Bruin MindFit is a 9 week hands-on mindful movement and meditation course that teaches several effective stress management tools and is offered to faculty and staff at no cost.  Bruin MindFit participants practice meditation, breathing (pranayama), basic yoga movement, relaxation, walking, and everyday mindfulness. 

Bruin MindFit is appropriate for individuals of all fitness levels, who are ready to cultivate everyday wellness and a daily practice of stress relieving, mindful movement, and meditation. Some possible benefits of Bruin MindFit are:

  • improved body awareness
  • increased strength & suppleness
  • enhance your overall level of wellness


*Must be employed 50% time or more to be eligible to apply for Bruin MindFit. 

LIVE Virtual Bruin MindFit Summer 2020:

A 4-week virtual mindful movement and meditation course that teaches several effective stress-management tools. Practice meditation, breathing (pranayama), basic yoga movement, relaxation, walking, and everyday mindfulness. Participants are chosen via a lottery drawing of applications.

Each class session has a different but complementary mindfulness focus: 1- Success at School with improved learning skills 2- Focus, Presence & Calm 3- Stress & Anxiety Reduction, Management & Prevention 4- Enhanced Physical Awareness, Breathing, Energy & Fitness 5- Improved Wellness - Balance, Fulfillment & Happiness 6- Enhanced Health, Sleep, & Nutrition 7- Mindful Time Management & Prioritization and 8- Self Expression & Social Integration.

Program Dates: 7/14/20- 8/6/20 

Days/Times: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 12:15pm - 12:55pm

Applications were due on Wednesday, June 24, 2020.  Lottery results will be sent on Monday, June 29, 2020.

How do people get selected for the program? 
The selection process is based on a lottery. All applications received will be entered into the drawing. The application must be completely filled out.

Is there a wait list for those not drawn in the lottery?
There is no wait list.

Does Bruin MindFit cost money? 
No. This program is being offered free to (first time participants) faculty and staff as part of FITWELL’s employee wellness initiative funded by the University.

What is the program like? What will we be doing? 
Bruin MindFit is a stress mindful movement and meditation program. Meditation, breathing (pranayama), yoga, relaxation, walking, and mindfulness will be practiced regularly. The goal of the program is for you to walk away with a daily practice that suits you best.

How much physical activity will be included in the program? 

Yoga and walking will be done regularly. The yoga will be suitable for a beginner and/or someone who practices yoga regularly. It will include getting up and down from the floor. You will learn several short sequences that could serve as your daily stress management practice. We will also explore several ways to use walking as a meditation and stress management technique.  The walks would last 5 minutes to 30 minutes.

Will the meditation require floor sitting? 
We will learn several types of meditation. You will always have a chair as an option. When we do meditation on the floor, there will be bolsters, blankets, and blocks available that help to make floor sitting more comfortable.

Who is going to teach the classes? 
Our FitWell Staff of Yoga, Meditation, and Fitness Instructors.

Do I have to sign up for a specific time or could I go to any of the scheduled times? 

Yes, please choose the class time that suits you best. We will do our place you in your preferred timeslot as space permits. This will be your assigned timeslot for each day of class, for the entire program. On an occasional basis, you can attend another class if you cannot make the class you are enrolled in.

Do we need to attend each and every class? 
We recommend you miss no more than 4 classes total in order for it to be as beneficial as possible. If you foresee missing 4 or more classes, we recommend you apply for the next Bruin MindFit session when you can attend consistently. Schedule alternatives (i.e. practicing from home, make-up classes, etc.) will not be offered.

Do I need to be a recreation member to participate? 
No, recreation membership is not required. You only need to be a full time faculty or staff member to qualify. This program is not for students.

Can I repeat Bruin MindFit? 
If you have participated in the past (either dropped the program early without an excused dismissal such as a medical or family emergency, or finished the entire program), the cost is $150.
