Bruin Health Improvement Program (BHIP)p: Better Movement & Posture
Do you sit too much, feel stiff, and want to work on your posture and start strength training? Then, this 8-week program is for you! This new addition to the wildly successful Bruin Health Improvement Program suite slows things down by first addressing common postural strategies that can impair high quality, pain free movement. This class is lead by highly trained fitness professionals and features:
- assessments for program personalization
- movement drills and exercises, specific to your needs
- Slower paced introduction to strength training
Program Dates: 7/7/25 - 8/29/25
Class Options: In person: MWF: 5:15-6:15pm OR Virtual: TuTh 6:30-7:30p TuTh
The online class requires the following equipment: resistance band and door strap, adjustable bench, foam roller, wedges, pillow, two yoga blocks, and 2 sets of dumbbells. More information about equipment provided after enrollment. Equipment is available/provided for the in-person class on campus.
BHIP .5
Bruin Health Improvement Program (BHIP) .5: Physical Activity, Nutrition, & Healthy Cooking

The Bruin Health Improvement Program (BHIP) .5 is a 10 week lifestyle change program designed to increase the fitness and thereby the health of the UCLA Employee*. BHIP .5 is a program for those who may be sedentary, looking to lose weight, or not ready to join BHIP OnRamp. FREE for first time participants!* It is funded by UCLA and is a tremendous investment in UCLA’s most precious resource: the staff and faculty.
*Must be employed 50% time or more to be eligible to apply for BHIP and/or BHIP.5.
Virtual BHIP.5 Programs - Spring 2025:
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY & NUTRITION PROGRAM
A 10-week lifestyle change program that offers low-impact physical activity, nutrition education, meal plans, cooking classes, and weekly challenges. Participants will learn to eat, cook, think, and move more healthfully. Two live workouts led by certified fitness professionals and one live nutrition session led by the FITWELL registered dietitian or UCLA Teaching Kitchen chef are offered each week. BHIP.5 is appropriate for individuals who are sedentary or whose primary goals may be to lose weight, increase daily physical activity, learn to eat and cook more healthfully, and improve overall health. Participants are chosen via a lottery drawing of applications.
Program Dates: 5/19/25 - 7/24/25
Class Days/Times:
- Mondays, 5:30-6:30p (Nutrition education classes and 3 live culinary classes)
- Tuesdays & Thursdays 5:30-6:30p (Workout classes)
Plus 30 min 1:1 sessions with a registered dietitian!
Location: Virtual classes via Zoom
Applications are available through Wednesday 5/7/25. Lottery results will be sent on Thursday 5/8/25.
Equipment requirements will be discussed at orientation.
Minimum equipment: One resistance tube with handles (medium resistance) and a set of dumbbells (light/medium).
Recommended equipment: A variety of resistance tubes with handles (see examples here), one or more resistance loop(s) (see examples here), and 2 or more pairs of dumbbells (light/medium/heavy)
Note for applications: UCLA ID: This ID is displayed on BruinCards or employee badge. UCPath ID: Your UCPath ID can be found by logging into the UCPath portal. The ID number will be displayed in the top left box under your name. It can also be found on UCPath paychecks or paystubs.
HEALTHY COOKING & NUTRITION PROGRAM
A 10-week lifestyle change and culinary program that offers comprehensive nutrition education and health coaching, live practical cooking classes, meal plans, and weekly challenges. Participants will learn to cook and eat more healthfully. One live cooking/nutrition session led by the UCLA Teaching Kitchen professional chef and FITWELL registered dietitian and one live health coaching class are offered each week. BHIP.5 Nutrition Only is appropriate for individuals looking to become a confident home chef, develop healthier, more mindful eating habits, and improve overall health. Participants are chosen via a lottery drawing of applications.
Program Dates: Not offered for Spring 2025
Class Days/Times:
- Mondays, 5:30-7:00p (Cooking/Nutrition class)
- Wednesdays, 12:00-1:00p (Health coaching class)
Plus 30 min 1:1 sessions with a registered dietitian!
Location: Virtual classes via Zoom
Important Information:
In-person program: There is a $150 repeat fee for individuals who have participated in at least four weeks of the program and who wish to repeat BHIP.5.
Virtual program: There is a $40 repeat fee for individuals who have participated in at least four weeks of the program and who wish to repeat BHIP.5
Graduate Student Employees (at 50% time or more) are eligible to apply for BHIP and/or BHIP.5.

BHIP OnRamp
Bruin Health Improvement Program (BHIP) Onramp: Strength and Conditioning

The Bruin Health Improvement Program (BHIP) OnRamp is a 12 week long strength and conditioning program, exclusively for UCLA faculty and staff* at no cost, offering participants intensive lifestyle training in areas of exercise, nutrition, stress management and mental conditioning. BHIP OnRamp is a comprehensive conditioning program that will improve cardiovascular fitness and overall strength and mobility. It is appropriate for individuals without current limitations and those looking to become much more physically active and nutritionally mindful. FREE for first time participants!*

LIVE Virtual BHIP OnRamp - Spring 2025
A 12-week health improvement program designed for individuals looking to learn proper exercise technique, start/improve a regular resistance training program, and increase strength & overall fitness. Enjoy live workouts led by certified fitness professionals three times per week and improve eating habits with an optional nutrition component. BHIP is appropriate for individuals who are generally active, but looking to add regular resistance training, and create sustainable nutrition habits to help reach their overall health goals.
Participants are chosen via a lottery drawing of applications. Participants will be assigned ONE class time. BHIP OnRamp graduates can join the BHIP Ongoing Program.
Program Dates: 5/19/ 25 - 8/8/25
Class Options:
- Virtual class time: 7:00-8:00a on Monday, Wednesday & Friday (Live via Zoom)
Applications are available through Wednesday 5/7/25. Lottery results will be sent on Thursday 5/8/25.

BHIP Ongoing
Bruin Health Improvement Program (BHIP) Ongoing - Virtual and In Person

As a BHIP graduate, you have the opportunity to continue what you've learned in BHIP Onramp with BHIP Ongoing. You are eligible to enroll or re-enroll in BHIP Ongoing at any time.
Virtual BHIP Ongoing - Spring 2025
Virtual BHIP Ongoing is available only for BHIP OnRamp Graduates or by approval of BHIP Coordinator. Virtual BHIP Ongoing includes access to LIVE classes offered two days/week (Tu/Th) at 7a, 12p, or 5:30p via Zoom. Spring class dates are 4/1/25 - 6/30/25.
Cost: $90/quarter. Register via the UCLA Recreation online store. Available as a quarterly membership with Payroll Deduction (PRD) options.

In-Person BHIP Ongoing - Spring 2025
In-person BHIP Ongoing is currently available for BHIP Graduates of in-person BHIP Onramp classes or by approval of BHIP Coordinator. BHIP Ongoing includes access to in person classes at Drake Stadium, virtual classes, and a Rec membership, including access to all available facilities.
Class Offerings: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday at 6:15a, 7:15a, 11:00a, 5:15p, 6:20p and an additional 12:05p class on Tuesday/Thursday and a 4:00p class on Monday/Wednesday. Plus Friday classes at 6:15a, 7:15a (new for Winter 2025!) and 12:00p, 5:15p & 6:20p.
Locations:4p Monday and 12p, 5:15p, & 6:20p Friday classes meet at NW corner of Drake. All other classes meet at the Rig.
Cost:
- Payroll Deduction or AutoPay: $70/month
